Woolmark Production Innovation Challenge 2020 Winners

Congratulations to all the finalists in the company. We really enjoyed mentoring you through the closing stages of the challenge.

A special mention to Bettina and Carly, the overall winners.

Congratulations Bettina Blomstedt, Aalto University, Finland, for winning and receiving a 3-month paid internship with The Woolmark Company.

From the website, “Bettina starts her research with sustainability in mind, asking: how can the inherent properties of Merino wool be utilised in sportswear, without adding any synthetic materials to the mix?

Using her knowledge of advanced knitting technology and taking a look back at traditional techniques, her concept explores alternative ways of achieving sportswear performance by enhancing the natural existing properties of Merino wool.”

Congratulations also to Carly Condruff, University of Oregon, USA, for winning, and receiving a 3-month paid internship with Helly Hansen.

From the website, “Whilst the rules surrounding ocean racing has developed to encourage female participation, Carly argues that social and environmental barriers still exist.

She set herself a goal for the project: to create a system of apparel under the athlete’s dry suit specifically tailored to the female body, providing superior support, strategic insulation, and light protection using 100% Merino wool, enabling optimal performance in race conditions.”

Both Carly and Bettina looked to nature to be inspired for their multi-functional products.

We wish them all the success with their future careers!
