Housing Competition - Cairo, Egypt

Working with a team of engineers and architects from Egyptian companies, Al Tamimi & Co and DAR, we developed a net-zero housing complex.

This combined the following environmental solutions: water management (fresh, waste and storm), waste management, natural and mechanical ventilation, renewable energy, and off-grid energy systems.

To solve some of the design challenges, we took insights from cactus for the shading systems and from Namibian fluted termite mounds that allow for air circulation around the building skin and within the structure.

Return on Investment (ROI) - The project simulated that the return would be 10 years (at 2018 pricing levels).
