Nature-inspired Manufacturing

"Almost all quality improvement comes via simplification of design, manufacturing... layout, processes, and procedures." - Tom Peter

Manufacturing and robotics

When we think of manufacturing, we think of large factories where the raw material comes in and is processed ready for the next step in the process.

In the natural world, their factories grow stuff. The seed to the plant. The cell to the mammal. They do this using their own materials and structures with self-repair a key component. We hate things that break, but the natural world needs this for self-renewal.

Consider that polymer chains are formed in ambient conditions using the minimum amounts of energy from abundant raw materials and compare this with our existing methods of manufacture.
